Lifestyle Dog Training

Picture this. You’re at home, relaxing on the couch and minding your business, when your partner suddenly bursts through the door and shouts at you to get up. You haven’t seen them all day, and out of nowhere they show up barking commands at you.

If they did this, you’d probably push back a little, right? Dig into the couch a little more? Or maybe you’d get up for a moment only to return to the couch as soon as your partner left the room.

So why do you think it’s any different for your dog?

Dogs are way more sophisticated than we give them credit for. When they’re shouted at or controlled, they might obey—but only when you’re watching. The problem is not their breed or personality—it’s their training.

Traditional behavior training focuses on isolated commands—Sit! Stay! “Don’t eat that!” etc. With enough repetition, our furry friends learn to respond to these commands. But the results don’t last.

Sure, your dog can sit. But can they stay seated when the front door flies open and a squirrel runs across the yard?

Great, your dog can stop barking if you yell at them. But do they bark incessantly when you’re on a Zoom call and can’t intervene?

The command and control approach leads to dogs who only obey out of fear, and only when told.

But there’s a better way to teach your dog. It’s called lifestyle training.

What Is Lifestyle Training?

Lifestyle training is about building connections rather than trying to control. It’s about spending consistent, quality time with your dog and teaching them through positive reinforcement.

Here’s what effective lifestyle training produces:

You’re out for a hike and your leash breaks. Instead of bolting away, your pup stays right by your side.

You’re in your living room and the UPS driver knocks on your door. Instead of barking and scratching at the door, your dog simply looks out the window and watches.

Your toddler drops a bowl of mac n’ cheese on the floor. Rather than gobble it up, your dog walks right past it and towards its food dish.

Lifestyle training leads to a well-behaved dog that can adapt and thrive in real world situations—like being out for a walk, at the park, or around strangers—all without your command. Plus, your dog feels good when they are spending time with you because they’re hearing “good boy” rather than “NO!”

This all sounds great, right? The only problem is that lifestyle training never ends. But that’s where we can help.
